With the incredible amount of traffic that streams from many social media venues, such as Facebook, Google +, Twitter, Linkedin, and more, it is difficult to dismiss that these sites have the ability to make or break even the best online ad campaign.

Determine Your Goals for Using Social Media

As with any other SEO driven online marketing campaign, it is important that unique, original content is at the heart of your social media. While you may be able to create an incredibly basic Facebook or Linkedin page, these social media avenues cannot achieve their full potential unless you are also able to contribute original content. In order to generate the kind of activity that you are looking for, it is important to come up with a plan when using social media. There are many goals that can be achieved when posting for your fan base, including:

  • Increasing traffic to your website
  • Cultivating an online community
  • Engaging your fans to comment, like, or share your original content
  • Growing sales stemming from your website

Once you have determined your goal for using social media, make sure to keep it in mind when generating your posts. To make sure that your strategy is working effectively, it is a good idea to keep track of how many new followers, shares, and sales are being generated in correlation with your posting.

Decide What and When to Post

To get the most attention from your followers, it is helpful to post a wide range of formats. Video, promotions, photos, links, and original text are all excellent options, and it is helpful to track how much attention you receive with each unique post to determine what is most “liked” by your fans. While social media is an excellent way to communicate and bring in new fans, it should be used as a supplement to your main website and blog. The voice that you have culminated and maintained in your other materials should stay consistent when posting to social media and should convey your brand personality in a clear and approachable tone.

Once you nail down the frequency, tone, and message that you would like to deliver to your customers through social media, you will begin to see results. At the end of the day, great content brings in business, and spreading out your message through additional social platforms is an excellent way to reach out and gain more attention for your company.
